Target

Target team member

May 2017 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I've been working at this job for over two years now and I just love getting to work with the people that I do.

What I wish was different

Nothing! It's a good summer/break job to have.

Advice

If there's an option to work at a Target near you, do it! (It's worth it if you shop there as much as I do, anyway.)

Warehouse Associate

June - August 2019 • Fontana, CA

What I liked

I liked how I only worked three days a week and I would have 4 days off. The workload was pretty straightforward and I got the hang of it real quick.

What I wish was different

I worked 12 hour shifts for each scheduled day and i wish they gave me the option of doing at least 8 hour shifts per day. I also wish the managers wouldn't pressure you to keep a high scan rate.

Advice

If you can handle 12 hour shifts and work quick enough to keep a high scan rate, you can make a hefty paycheck each week by working only 3 days.

Target Fulfillment Team Member

July - October 2019 • San Ramon, CA

What I liked

One thing I liked about my experience working at Target is the positive interactions I would have with the guests who were shopping. Being a fulfillment team member, I was constantly on my feet and navigating the store and looking for the items guests purchased. As a result, guest interactions were inevitable and I was always pleased to help make others' shopping experience enjoyable. More often than not, guests were delighted with my services and in return were very kind to me making my job pleasant.

What I wish was different

One thing I wish would have been different from my time at Target was the turn around time from when I received my conditional job offer and when I actually started working. The time in between these two was about two weeks. I wish I could have started working sooner and that Target was more prompt with reaching back to me in between interviews.

Advice

One piece of advice about my experience working at Target is to hold value in your interactions you have with your co-workers, guests, and executive team leaders. These connections can lead to future opportunities that may reap benefits.

Management intern

June - August 2018 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

It was a very structured internship that provided an excellent overview of retail management as a whole. Target focused a lot on personal leadership development which I also appreciated and found very helpful.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more networking opportunities within the company throughout the internship and a tangible personal project to show for at the end of the internship.

Advice

If you want to make the most of the internship, show initiative. Ask tons of questions and try to get a well rounded understanding of every aspect of running a store.

My co-workers, the pay, and the mostly positive working environment.

What I wish was different

Scheduling, requesting time off, and communication about how long I had a job there for.

Advice

I don't recommend working at Target in general based on how my co-workers felt, but working as a security specialist was interesting and engaging.

Executive Team Leader Intern

June - August 2019 • Fredericksburg, VA

What I liked

I enjoyed the atmosphere. It's very hands-on and you jump right into the different departments and learn who is your team. This is a fast paced position.

What I wish was different

You learn a lot, I wished it was a little bit longer.

Advice

NETWORK! You learn a lot about Target culture and the business model. You have to network with your team and other leaders throughout your chosen store and others from different stores.

Executive Team Leader Intern

June - August 2017 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with at Target! Everyone, including higher management, were so supportive and encouraging! I felt valued and gained so many leadership skills on the job!

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more time to dive deeper into the company and it's culture! Retail is so fast pace that it was sometimes hard to understand Target's processes and procedures. I also wish there were more team bonding events because I loved getting to know other Executives and the other interns!

Advice

I would say, don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zones and just take risks! If you throw yourself into your role and you are confident in your ability to succeed, you will!
